The Louisiana Drillers ownership group is pleased to announce the addition of Rob Weingartner as Director of Player Personnel for the 2021-22 Season.
Rob will be entering his 10th season of Junior Hockey where he has served as Head Coach and General Manager of the Wichita Jr Thunder of the WSHL (Western States Hockey League) from 2012 through 2020 and last year serving as Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations for the Florida Jr Blades of the USPHL (United States Premier Hockey League). Rob’s eight years in Wichita were highlighted by capturing the Thorne Cup Championship in 2017. A level 4 certified USA Hockey Coach, Rob is known for his work ethic and ability to develop players and move them to higher levels. Rob was the assistant coach of the Wichita Thunder of the CHL (Central Hockey League) during the 2006-07 season and was named head coach during the 2007-08. Prior to coaching, Weingartner had an 8-year professional career playing in the CHL (Wichita Thunder/San Antonio Iguanas), ECHL (Louisiana IceGators/Arkansas RiverBlades) and IHL (Manitoba Moose) and attended two NHL training camps, in 1992 with the New York Islanders and 1998 with the Edmonton Oilers. Weingartner who won two championships in the CHL while playing for the Wichita Thunder, also has his number retired by the organization.
Prior to playing pro hockey, Rob played in the NAHL (North American Hockey League) for the Kalamazoo Wings back in 1991-92 season. Rob is married to his wife Renee of 27 years and have one daughter Madison 26 and twin boys Jake and Carson 20.
The Drillers will host the Atlanta Capitals at Planet Ice to open the 2021-22 season on Friday-Sunday, September 24th-26th at 4 pm. Tickets are available at the door for $5.
